BECAUSE THERE ARE TRAILERS TO TOWAND PLANETS TO SAVE.

There’s no need to trade off capability for environmental responsibility – at least not since the introduction of the new 2008 Yukon Hybrid. It incorporates the power and trailer towing capacities you associate with Yukon – GMC’s full-size SUV. What distinguishes Yukon Hybrid is its dramatic fuel efficiency gains – the product of its leading-edge Two-Mode Hybrid System that can operate with electric power alone, Vortec V8 engine power alone, or a combination of the two, as conditions require.Just how dramatic are the gains? An estimated 25 percent overall improvement in combined fuel efficiency and up to 40 percent better city ratings.* Be strong. Be virtuous. The new 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid. HYBRID POWER FLOW DISPLAY

Left - The navigation radio screen displays the status of the Two-Mode Hybrid System, informing you of the Mode it is operating in and whether electric, gasoline power or a combination of the two is currently in use.

GREEN POWER.

The Two-Mode Hybrid System features a 300-volt battery (A) that powers two 60-kW motors housed within the electronically variable transmission (B). The Vortec V8 gasoline engine features Active Fuel Management™ (C) that shuts down four of eight cylinders in low-demand situations to further enhance fuel efficiency.

TWO-MODE HYBRID SYSTEM.

The advantage of the Two-Mode Hybrid System is that it automatically selects the most effective and efficient blend of power, based on demand.

Mode 1

When driving at a low speed with a light load, Mode 1 can operate three ways: on electric power alone, on gasoline engine power alone, or with a combination of both. The engine shuts off entirely in stop-and-go traffic, allowing you to drive up to 50 km/h on electric power, in certain situations, to dramatically reduce fuel consumption.

Mode 2

At highway speeds, Mode 2 kicks in. It delivers full Vortec V8 gasoline power – with supplemental electric power in such demanding situations as passing, towing a trailer or climbing steep grades.
BATTERY POWER

Electric power is provided by the 300-volt battery pack housed under the secondrow seat, requiring no sacrifice of passenger room.

REGENERATIVE BRAKING

The battery pack is recharged when you coast or apply the brakes, by harnessing the kinetic energy that would otherwise be lost, and converting it to electricity, using the transmission’s electric motors as generators. The regenerative brakes provide the initial stopping power – the conventional hydraulic brakes are then activated whenever additional braking force is required. This dual braking system not only reduces stopping distances and enhances overall braking performance, it also extends the life of the friction material.

ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT

Tahoe Hybrid’s Vortec 6.0L LIVC (Late Intake Valve Closing) V8 generates 332 horsepower and 367 lb.-ft. of torque. It also features Active FuelManagement (AFM), which shuts down four of eight cylinders in low demand situations, such as cruising on a level highway. When more power is needed, such as during acceleration or driving uphill, the cylinders are reactivated quickly and smoothly – with no driver input required. The transitions are so seamless, they are virtually undetectable. In Tahoe Hybrid, the Active Fuel Management is activated sooner and for longer periods than on conventional Tahoe’s, because the engine can operate on four cylinders, supplemented by the electric boost.

TRAILER-READY

Like all Tahoes, the new Tahoe Hybrid is engineered to meet the rigorous demands of towing. The Two-Mode Hybrid System is integrated with such trailering features as shift stabilization and manual range selection mode.

FUEL-EFFICIENCY ENHANCEMENTS

It isn’t only Tahoe Hybrid’s Two-Mode System that increases fuel efficiency. Exclusive design features like a lowered body, integrated assist steps with flared fronts, plus a streamlined hood and fascias improve the aerodynamics, reducing fuel consumption. The use of lightweight aluminum in the hood, liftgate and wheels, in addition to low rolling-resistance tires all contribute to Tahoe Hybrid’s impressive fuel efficiency. In fact, Tahoe Hbrid ismore fuel efficient than a V6 Toyota Camry sedan.*

PREMIUM AMENITIES

Tahoe Hybrid is as well equipped as it is technologically advanced. Standard features include: automatic locking rear differential, tap-up/tap-down transmission shift controls, leather-appointed heated front bucket seats, a touch-screen navigation radio,** plus Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist and a Rearview Camera System.
